Opening night. On Friday, September 15, 1967, the Family Dog opened its Denver hall at 1601 W. Evans Ave. under FD-D2 -- a poster drawn by George Hunter and Michael Ferguson, both of the Charlatans -- with Quicksilver Messenger Service, the Charlatans and Superband across three nights, September 15 to 17 (bill and dates per coau and rockposters; both give a 15-17 run, and a dealer listing describing a two-night 15-16 stand is the outlier, not followed here). This is Chet Helms's operation exporting itself a thousand miles east while the Avalon kept humming: the same weekend, Moscoso's FD-81 opened in San Francisco. Two Family Dog posters, one weekend, two cities -- the confusion this causes in poster catalogues is entirely understandable and entirely avoidable.
