Closing night. Sunday, September 15, 1968 ended the three-night FD-137 stand at the Avalon Ballroom, John Mayall finishing over Big Mama Thornton's Hound Dog Band and Black Pearl on the Wes Wilson and Kurt Strausse poster (per wolfgangs and rockposters). Mayall and Thornton on the same closing bill is the sort of pairing the Avalon did particularly well -- the British blues revival and an originator of the form on one stage, the last night of the weekend. The fuller account is on the September 13 opening-night page.
